Of course, I can tank if there is a prot monk around, but when people make PUGs for UW or FoW do they make sure they get a prot monk? Nope. Have 3 healer monks, yay!

If I'm in a group, I don't go for the warriors, I go for the casters becuase it is easy for me to take them out. Let the monkey with the shield take the damage.

Does anyone share my grief?
Oh god yes, especially in UW.

And I take my aggression out on the newbs wielding pointy sticks in Team Arena.

Shields don't work from behind, and offer about 19% less damage. In any case you're just as good tanking the stuff in the front of underworld naked (no matter what you take the same damage via prot spirit), warriors are just the best at body blocking because they're melee.

Actually for fow and uw I would recoment that both monks take Aegis and protective spirit (only 10%damage based on Heath amount) That really reduces the amount of damage taken by the tanks. I'm not sure how much damage the shadows give but ~250 dmg reduced to ~ 50 is a lot

But I do agree a full protection monk or a full healer is pointless in FOW or UW a mix work best.

Referring to the OP, on the contrary, I enjoy being seen as a Tank. Especially by the opposing team. It's pretty easy for a warrior to rush into the enemy team to where the casters are without being targetted because they think that's what you're trying to do, take all their attention and damage and survive.
Imagine a W/Me. Disable the monk's casting power with some Domination skills and pound him while he can't do anything. I doubt your average player looks at a warrior's secondary profession and sees it as a threat.
Sure you'd have to sacrifice some defense to up your energy count, but you're not being targetted anyway, right?

It does speak volumes about a class when one must rely on subversion to become effective.

Domination Magic stops the monk from healing, ergo it helps you do damage. Complimenting the warriors function. What's so farfetched about that? It's not like this guy is talking about becoming a stealth mesmer.

I would say, that it is now the Warriors finding themselves in what the Monks were so recently going through.

Your role in the party has become so important (on the surface) that your class is now pidgeonholed. So were monks as healers, and now warriors as tanks. It's interesting, to say the least.

Absolutly! You are right on. Spam an empathy on an opposing melee, or throw a backfire on a monk just before you clash. Just a few of many options open to a W/Me build. I think it is very deadly. It's not that these aren't counterable, but the fact that it is not expected based upon the stereotypical view that warriors on use warrior skills. This unexpected use of secondary skills can throw a wrench in an opposing teams wheel.

One could have their game setup as F1(sword and shield), but start in F2 (with a staff or charm with extra energy) to spam a few spells before closing with the enemy and switching to traditional weapondry for the warrior.

Well played Darkest Dawn.

The 2ndary of ANY class should be analyzed as well as the primary. Oh that's a w/n? no problem, dump blind and cripple and weakness on him fast!

plague touch x3 + victory is mine!

Ok, HEAL the conditions from the monk and do it again!

plague touch x3

DAMNIT!

Ah, it's just a warrior, I'll do Shield of Judgement and laugh as he kills himself!
*rend enchantments

NOOOO!!!!

Here's how I see it:

You need a tank.
Warriors make the best tanks, by far.
So when people ask for a Warrior, they are asking for a tank.
If you aren't going to fulfill the role that is expected for you, then it is your duty to inform the group of that.

It's the same thing Smiting Monks go through.

So you expect that pple treat you as a non tank but as a damage dealer and anti caster?

So will you be able to endure a ele/war who melee with hammer and do close range nukes? Or when your party has 2 mnks and both of them want to smite and no one want to be healer.

From what you have said I believe u are only talking abt PVE ( Fissure/uw). In that sense, sure if your party has 4 warriors a few of you can play damage dealer(no defensive stances, shouts, etc). If you are the only warrior and you don't want to tank. Don't expect the only monk to be healing as well. They could very well be the same as you and want to deal damage and disrupt casters(eg. Mnk/mes).

If you don't want to accomodate to your party's needs. Just join another party.

Exactly.

People expect all monks to be healers and they expect all warriors to be tanks. Sorry guys, it just isn`t that way. Learn to live with that!

I actually decided to get the damage reducing armor instead of the energy plus armor just because I knew that I'd have to tank. I feel your pain.

you only need 1 piece of the dmg reduction armor to get the dmg reduction bonus

Just becuase you're a warrior shouldn't make you a good lightening rod. Besides, the term "Tank" is completely inaccurate. In modern warefare Tanks are defently not there to draw fire, but to deal damage. Where did this termonology come from?

No, warriors aren't lightening rods and generally most warriors stay on the casters anyway. I'de call a person stupid if I saw them attacking a warrior before, say, a mesmer or a monk.

My general thoughts are to have one damage taker and one dealer on a PvE team. On PvP tanking is useless.

I don't see how you can like being a meatbag.
yeah, my main pvp char is a N/W, and I always go for the warrior first, I am an anti-warrior, ill let the anti-spellcasters take out the monk and other spellcasters. i dont do much damage with my sword but i make up for that by letting the warrior do massive damage to himself every time he attacks, and combining that with enfeeble i am very effective at taking out warriors. so call me an idiot, but i am effective.

its fun watching those stupid warriors kill themselves
